following the video, Bay Mills Indian Community\u2019s Chairman Bryan Newland will present a lecture titled, \u201cBlood Feud: The Ethics of Researching Native American Genetics,\u201d that will explore the Havasupai Tribe\u2019s own experiences and the need for ethical research.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Bryan Newland is the Chairman of the Bay Mills Indian Community, and has served as the Chief Judge of the Bay Mills Indian Community Tribal Court.\u00a0 He is also a member of the Board of Trustees for the Michigan State University College of Law.\u00a0 From 2009-2012, Bryan served as an appointee of President Barack Obama at the Department of the Interior, where he was the Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs.\u00a0<br \/>Bryan was the first student to enter the Michigan State University College of Law&#8217;s Indigenous Law Program, and graduated magna cum laude with a certificate in Indigenous Law.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/lakercast\/Library\/ScholarSeries\/NewlandBloodFeud\/BryanNewland2018CC_player.html\">Click here to access the closed captioned version of this presentation.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our Scholar Series, will open with a short screening of the PBS-produced short, Informed Consent and Medical Research\u00a0which introduces the issues related to medical research and Native American genetics;
