LSSU Library Scholar Series presents “Solving Mysteries of the Renaissance: Leonardo, Michelangelo & Brunelleschi” with Professor Ted Walker.  Thursday, September 19, 2024.

The most dynamic intellectuals of Renaissance Florence often clashed with civil authorities and church prelates who resented their progressive ideas. Leonardo avoided conflict by working in secrecy, carefully recording each discovery in his notebooks. Michelangelo challenged religious doctrine in the forceful reinterpretation of his sculptures. Brunelleschi reacted to his critics by burning his designs soon after creating them. This presentation will show how each of these artists worked, in what was often an oppressive and dangerous environment.
