Marine Reserve Fun!

Thursday, May 2nd, 9:30pm

Hi Sarah and Savannah here!

Today we got the opportunity to go and visit the Goat Island Marine Center. While we were here we got to listen to an educational powerpoint  about marine life and the different reserves and threats that the marine life face. We then were split into two groups and we got to look at sea urchins and starfish under a large microscope, while the other group went to the interactive tank where you could touch and see different marine organisms including: starfish, sea urchins, hermit crabs, sea slugs, lobster,  and sponges. We then switched groups and went to the other activity. After we finished up here we then were able to go the coastline at the marine center and look at Goat Island from shore. We walked all around and were able to identify some of the things we saw in the marine center out at shore.

After we finished up at the marine center we then headed back to the cottages we stayed in the previous night for a lunch and some free time. The free time included being able to kayak, walk around the shore at low tide, jump on the trampoline, or just sit around and relax with each other. After we finished up our little break we got on the road again and headed to Tauranga. We stopped for dinner at a Turkish restaurant, which was very delicious, to which we got back on the bus and headed to our next hostel to prep for the next day.
